Background:
The beautiful Kibbutz Snir was engulfed by old Mine Fields.
These were laid amongst the borders drawn in the 1916 Sykes-Picot agreement between the French and British empires.
In retrospect clearance operations on the site had recovered what can only be described as an Archeological Site of Mines.
- French Laid mines.
- German made S-Mine35 with the swastika cross engraved on them.
- British laid mines and boobytrap grenades.
- Syrian laid mines.
What was unique was to see mine rows of a particular mine adjacent and sometimes crossing mine rows of a different mine type. Most likely the men laying these mines were unaware of the previous minefields.
Another interesting fact was that these Pre WW II mines – Function and detonate perfectly.
